Principal Artist Baumann, Gustave
Title Rose Farm
Date 1916
Description Framed color woodcut with artist's signature. On front titled "Rose Farm" and #18.
Notes German-born printmaker Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) depicted the colorful landscapes of rural New York State; Brown County, Indiana; and the American Southwest.

This work is part of the GFWC Headquarters exhibit "'Noble and Beautiful Things:' GFWC's Traveling Art Galleries." In 1906, the GFWC Art Committee assembled a traveling art gallery of paintings and etchings loaned by well-known American artists and art collectors. The committee hoped that "a greater knowledge of noble and beautiful things" would result in "higher ideals for mankind." These traveling exhibits continued into the 1920s; the 1922-1924 Art Department program handbook describes "two delightful sets of Wood Block Prints, Helen Hyde's and Gustav (sic) Baumann's," examples of which are retained in the GFWC collections.
