Jo, a New Jersey native, became a GFWC clubwoman with the Paterson Junior Woman's Club in 1957. She continued as a member of the Woman's Club of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, and then as a member of the Palm Beach Gardens Woman's Club in Florida.

The Eighteenth Biennial Convention of General Federation of Women's Clubs was held 24 May - 5 June 1926 in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Steel Pier. The GFWC Convention Records, 1926, consist of a call to convention letter which includes proposed amendments and travel information, an application for hotel accommodations, a convention program, the published report of president Mary King Sherman, a book of resolutions presented at the convention, and the Official Proceedings. The records also include a copy of Mrs. Sherman's message that was published by "The Reader" and distributed to the delegates at the convention.
