Marie Land (Mrs. Edward) of Statesville, North Carolina, served from 1932 to 1935 as the first Chairman of the new GFWC Junior Department, which was established at the 1932 GFWC Convention in Seattle, Washington. Her administration theme was "The Interdependence of Juniors and Seniors." Vice-Chairman Mary Kimberly Shirk of Redlands, California, was the daughter of Helen Cheney Kimberly, who wrote the Junior Pledge. During her tenure on the committee, she promoted the use of the Pledge both nationally and internationally. In addition, regional chairmen were appointed.
