Name Haugan, Gladys Simpson
Notes Gladys Simpson Haugan (Mrs. Kermit V. Haugan) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 7, 1905. She received her B.S. from the University of Minnesota with a major in history and minors in English, speech, political science, and geography. She held life certificates in teaching in both Minnesota and Wisconsin secondary schools.

After her marriage, Haugan moved to Horicon, Wisconsin. There she joined the Horicon Woman's Club, eventually serving as its president. She was also active in the Dodge County Federation of Women's Clubs. In 1956, after serving in various state offices, she was elected state president of the Minnesota Federation of Women's Clubs.

In 1962, Haugan became GFWC recording secretary. She moved through the ranks of national officers and was elected GFWC President in 1972. The theme of her administration theme was "Respect, Reverence, Responsibility."

During her term, Gladys Haugan promoted conservation education, the arts, consumer affairs, and international relations. She also instituted the "Justice for Juveniles" program.

After her GFWC presidency, she moved to Sun City, Arizona, but maintained a residence in Minnesota, where she served on an advisory committee for Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota.

She died October 22, 1985.
