The Women's Society of Lesbos, Mytilini, Greece, Community Improvement Program project, 1970-1972, was to help rehabilitate the community after suffering the economic fallout of a poor olive harvest.
To successfully complete this project, the Women's Society of Lesbos depended on donations from within the community and assistance from local businesses. With this cooperation the club accomplished numerous acts of charity such as sending the ill to Athens for medical aid, providing children with clothing and toys, and providing entertainment for the elderly and disabled. The club was also instrumental in the creation of an intellectual movement, resulting in the development of musical and literary events and lectures.
The project records include narrative, photographs, and both press clippings and correspondence in English and Greek. The Women's Society of Lesbos placed 3rd in the international club division of the GFWC Community Improvement Program for 1970-1972.
