Title Mae Wenger Family
Description Mae Wenger family oral history, 26 May 2007, consists of a joint family oral history describing memories of the four children of Mae Wenger. The discussion relates primarily to their mother's and their own involvement with GFWC in Kansas and Missouri. The narrators are Barbara Wenger Strahm, Anita Wenger Pfister, Richard Wenger, and Kathy Wenger Palermo.

In Kansas, Mae Wenger helped charter the Hiawatha Progressive Club, Powhattan Century II Club, Questors of Hutchinson, Flint Hills of Manhattan Club, Kansas Rainbows, Sunflower Club of Topeka, and the ABC Club of Hiawatha. She was state president of the Kansas Federation of Women's Clubs, 1982-1984, and Mississippi Valley Region president, 1990-1992. She gathered club histories to research and publish the Kansas state federation centennial history book. She received the Kansas Woman of Achievement Award at the GFWC Convention in Phoenix, Arizona in 1997. The file includes several photographs of Mae Wenger and her family at GFWC events, including the GFWC board meeting in Toronto, September 1983, where Mae and her husband Leon won the Judges Choice Award as Martha and George Washington at the Gala Costume Benefit for GFWC's Women's History and Resource Center.

Mae Wenger's papers have been donated to the Kansas State Historical Society Library in Topeka. The art collection that she helped create as a Kansas state federation project "Pennies for Art" is also at the Kansas State Historical Society.
